I'm a creative homemaker and homeschooling mama. I love to write, take pretty photos, and be in nature with my family. FIMBY is the story of our family life.

Hi, I'm Renee

I am a community minded gal with earthy farming sensibilities. I love flowers, dancing in the kitchen, reading, thriving urban neighborhoods, living in the woods, farmer's markets, and (as of just recently!) working at home with my husband. I also love seasonal and life rhythms, making my own soap, hang drying laundry and notions of homesteading.

I am a writer, photographer, and blogger. A homemaker and homeschooler.

Happiest when creating - a home, a family, a garden, a good blog, a beautiful photo. I have always loved nature and I am an enthusiastic outdoors woman and adventurer, hiking each week with my family. 

On a daily basis you'll find me enjoying a morning coffee, homeschooling our children, cooking plant-based gluten free meals, organizing and simplifying our family's life. I delegate as much of the household cleaning as my family will allow and runs errands as little as possible. 

My personal mission is to nourish, encourage and teach; build relationship and create beauty. Investing first in my family and then others.

Welcome to FIMBY

FIMBY is the story of homemaking, mothering, and homeschooling in the context of nature inspired, adventurous, and creative family living. It's about the Fun In My Back Yard.

Just as my home is a place of welcome, so is FIMBY.

FIMBY started over five years ago as a tell our family story blog and because my personal mission is very home and family focused, much of that is my reflected in my blogging manifesto. 

With the launch of Life 3.0 my professional goals for FIMBY include:

  • growing as a writer, photographer and creative mompreneur
  • promoting collaborations, affiliates, partnerships, products and services in line with our family values 
  • earning money through the above endeavors to help support our family

Although I like to make this space pretty you can be sure I keep things real.

My mission for FIMBY is to encourage others to live their own healthy, adventurous and creative life - with beauty and intention. Especially mothers, homemakers and homeschoolers. 

Meet The Family

We are a family of writers, designers, artists, gardeners, engineers, homemakers, naturalists, sewists, adventurers, readers, soapmakers, programmers, idealists, photographers, problem solvers, outdoor enthusiasts and followers in the way of Christ.

We value growing in our faith, being together, experiencing nature and adventure, healthy living, and freedom in education and livelihood. We appreciate beauty and creativity, building relationships and community, and living simply.

Our family is location independent. We live, work, and play - together. We are life learners, earning a livelihood using our skills and experience while following our passions and interests. We believe in hiking your own hike.
