What's FIMBY??

FIMBY simply stands for: Fun In My Back Yard

Ever heard of NIMBY? As in, it's fine for the state to have a toxic waste dump on the wrong side of the tracks, but whoa boy Not In My Back Yard!

The IMBY is the only thing that FIMBY shares with NIMBY. This blog is not about anything so serious as toxic waste facility placement. Although sometimes I do post about important stuff as it relates to my family's journey to live locally, justly and simply.

But for the most part I post about the fun happenin' in my backyard, and I have a rather broad definition for my backyard. The "backyard" in FIMBY is my home, relationships, community as well as my actual backyard and garden.

It came down to FIMBY being an easier blog title than thoughts on homeschooling, what's growing in my organic garden, the cool craft my kids made today, where we hiked this weekend, what's cookin' in my vegan kitchen, the latest batch of soap I made, the interesting book I just read, places we love in Maine, silly and serious poems, yesterday's trip to our CSA farm, and all the photos (lots of 'em) to prove it. Whew... that would be a long title. So FIMBY it is.

FIMBY has different sections that feature posts, blogrolls, links, booklists and resources related to that topic. Most of my posts appear on FIMBY home but they also get categorized into these six areas:

Mama Speak - the everyday musings of a homeschooling mom
Kiddo Speak - the life of 3 creative, homeschooled kiddos
The Homestead - home & garden with an urban, vegan (no chicken coop) twist
Finer Points - all things artsy, beautiful or mind expanding; drug free
Neighborhood - life and adventure beyond the white picket fence (ok I don't have one)
Camera Happy - fumbling towards better photography

FIMBY Natural Family stands alone as a resource dedicated to tutorials (limits on random musings) on making a better home and garden.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you stay awhile. I love your comments so please leave them if you're so inclined.
