I'm

I'm chuffed....seriously....I didn't know I was a good fisherwoman!

I really worry about how much trash we produce....although compared to the people I see on that show Wa$ted that I love so much, 1 bag of trash every 2 weeks isn't that bad. It's just me and Cody. But we are, or Cody is rather, working on our new in house composter.....I can't wait to share his hard work on that project!

Rain barrel sounds easy, although I know they can be pretty costly. Maybe instructables.com has some diy solutions for you in that department?! I want to get rid our our plastic containers too....I always save the ones I get from things bought at the grocery store since they can't be recycled here - but I need to cut back there, too!

I really am ecstatic that you decided to participate, it means a lot to me for you to have done so :o)

Lye, yes absolutely! That's

Lye, yes absolutely! That's the only way you can make soap. Even non-lye soaps, such as glycerin are a derivative of the basic lye&water mixed with oils soap process. No lye, no soap (unless you use soapnuts)

Doesn't sound anything basic to me! LOL
I'm also grateful for those little treasures I receive from all your hard work.
I think buying more tools for my kitchen is the first throw-off for me. Maybe in time. It is very appealing to me.

Do you also use lye?

I threw a load of laundry in

I threw a load of laundry in this morning (in hopes of catching the sun-drier advantage) and was thinking how I could use the bag of washing soda I just bought. Then your blog appears - reviewing the laundry soap recipe I'm not sure if I'm ready to commit to cooking up a batch yet. However, I'm interested in researching the soap nuts option - cost, availability here, performance. Looking at the whole soap process makes me even more thankful when I can use your bars - I love them. Thanks.

I also suspect that making your own soap will be cheaper than the soap nuts, and will probably get your clothes cleaner, but do let us know! I'm curious.

Maine Art Glass Studio...

Maine Art Glass Studio... funny you'd ask. I've had it on my list of places to go for some time. I thought originally I'd plan a visit on one of your trips. But Cori has organized a field trip where the kids get to create a piece of art glass. We're so excited! And I'm hoping to get some awesome photos (colored glass and sunlight is so beautiful) *smile*. But maybe we should go when you come this weekend anyway??

The proverbial one 'blog' leads to another: I checked out the lemon juice link on your post, where I wandered to the link-of-the-day bugs post. Immediately thought of your bug-infatuated family. Have you been to the Maine Art Glass Studio?
