The farm in March

You might have seen this coming, the somewhat regular farm report.

It's been a while since I've written about the farm, a place very dear to our hearts.   Last month's farm day was overshadowed by the busy-ness that was February.

We didn't even actually "visit" the farm last month. Instead we drove by and picked up our veggies (in the dark) on our way home from a shopping trip. Unfortunately, farm pick-up day coincided with our quarterly trip to the Patagonia outlet, where we make a four times a year journey (1/2 hour drive) to buy most of our clothing for wicked good prices.

But March is a new month with a much more relaxed schedule. Phew. Yesterday's farm visit was just as it should be.  A laid back, mud splattered and rooster crowing affair. With a healthy dose of "oohing and ahhing" at the new lambs.

Visiting the animals, walking in mud (mud season has arrived early here in Maine) and talking with our farmer was just what the kids and I needed.  I'm so thankful for the farm.

wish we had a working farm (where we could also get produce) nearby. will have to check again. local is so important here now, we might now be able to visit farms. how far a drive for you? (30 min drive is short as far as i am concerned! that is urban. traffic-filled living for ya.)

The farm is 10 minutes, no

The farm is 10 minutes, no traffic, from our house.  We live in Maine 2nd largest urban center but are 10 minutes from farms - I love it.

ah, farm life in the spring

ah, farm life in the spring is the best. Having a local farm to love up is so perfect....we're about 5 minutes from ours and I gage the seasons as much by Pond Hill as I do by the trees in my own backyard:)

That looks like it would have been fun to visit. My kids would have loved this. We are about 45 min. to the closest farm for us.

those are the cutest little

those are the cutest little lambs. our neighbors raise sheep for wool and we spend a bunch of time over at their barn checking out all of their woolly friends. we have two goats here (for their fiber) but i love being in the middle of a flock of sheep. reminds me of when i worked on a farm for a couple of years. enjoy our crazy warm weather!

Those lambs are adorable. We have a few organic farms (and a whole lot of ranches) around here. I think I might look into visiting with my kids. Maybe even a "work" day once a month.

I love the Patagonia outlet too! Ours is about 2 hours away in Dillon, MT, so we only make it once a year or so--usually on the way to or from somewhere else. I can't imagine ever paying retail price.
