I suppose this soap could be an any time of year soap, but I loved the harvest moon tinge (not obvious in the photo) and the tingling woodsy scent. The perfect bar to celebrate fall.

Harvest Moon Soap

Read A Beginner's Guide to Soapmaking for basic soap directions.

Soap Base

  • 32 oz. vegetable shortening
  • 24 oz. herb* infused olive oil
  • 16 oz. coconut oil
  • 14 oz. palm kernel oil
  • 12 oz. lye
  • 32 oz. distilled water
  • *I made an oil infusion of calendula, yarrow, echinacea, comfrey and plantain earlier in the summer for making salve. I had lots of oil left and used it in this recipe. It gives the soap it's light green tinge. You can substitute regular olive oil.

Essential Oils & Technique

  • 2.5 oz. eucalyptus oil
  • 1 oz. cedarwood oil
  • .5 oz rosemary oil

At trace add essential oil and mix well. Pour into mold.

Cool, cut and cure.

I was curious as to what kind of coconut oil you use. There are so many different kinds with different temps.

76 Degree melting point is all I can say. That's what it says on the label. I buy soap making grade, not the expensive food grade (though I suppose you could eat it but I don't).
