Fun In My Back Yard

Fall happened instead

This week I had planned to wash the porch windows. They've been dirty for a year but the gray sky and brown naked trees just seem to accentuate the smears, dust and finger prints. I was also supposed to do on-line banking, pay utility bills and such. And I hoped to, just maybe, finish sewing the curtains I started back in January (yeesh) to brighten up the aforementioned dingy front porch.

Instead I spent 5 hours, over two days, in the leaves with my children.

I carry around (in my head and sometimes on paper) a long list of household projects. But living the seasons just keeps interrupting my plans.

I think I'm more content when I carry around leaves instead of lists.

enjoying the fall leaves

We have a very teeny yard. You can see a couple photos of it here & here. There are no majestic trees that rain down brilliant leaves in fall. Well, there is the neighbor's tree just over the fence but it's leaves fall too little and too late.

renee first of all take it

renee first of all take it from me you are doing the right thing by stopping to play with your kids...the windows etc. can wait!

thanks for your comment on my blog. I always credit the quote but in this case I was not able to. The photo was something I have had for over 15 years (my kids are 20 and 16)and it was the top of a calendar...with no info on the back ...and calendar long gone . I wanted to post it tho as it has always served as a reminder that my kids are "somebody" right here and now no matter the age, stage or temperment and I thought it a worthy quote to pass on ..glad it "spoke" to you!

Yeah for fall breaks! I saw that HUGE leaf pile and thought, "oh my kids would be so jealous." We still have to wait a few more weeks for them to really start falling to the ground.

This message from the

This message from the president of the "Society for anal retentive people who have to carry around a printed to do list in order to just survive the day":

You are officially invited to become a member of our club. There is only one other known member and her to do list is more exacting than mine.

All of that aside, it never goes away - the list - it just gets longer and short (but mostly longer). So i applaud your decision to break away from the tyranical bondage of the list for a couple of days!! (Could you please send me a step by step tutorial on how to do it?!?).

Ok. . . back to the list!

Hurray for you, from another

Hurray for you, from another agenda maker who is figuring out that lists are goals, not decrees. I also raked and hauled leaves this week, your Dad raked more today -covering some of the same territory as I had. We have now had enough fun in the leaves and I am thus decreeing, the leaf collection is finished for this year!

Good for you.....I like to think that a life lived well is always reflected by dirty windows and mounds of unwashed laundry. Life is too short!
